Conversations / Arguements
What is a conversation? - definition: informal exchange of ideas, views, or information
There are a number of definitions that I have found with a simple Google search, but a large percentage use the key word "exchange" in it. Well, that simple means that during a conversation, the other party, or parties, are trying to assimilate what you are trying to convey.
So, is it still called a conversation if the person you are talking to isn't participating in this exchange by just being ignorant and not actually trying to understand?
Where is this coming from? Just watched "Remember the Titans". Recap: it's a movie about a high school where a white school is forced to merge with a black school and how the football team is what made the community come around as they were forced to come around. I see this kind of ignorance of race where one doesn't regard the other human being as an equal based simply on color. How about religion? Is it any different?
As I have commented before, many of use grow up around a community or family that is set on a specific religion, so we quickly embrace that and take that as part of our identity. But, what is to say that you weren't born in another country where you are no longer Christian, but say a Buddhist. You would have adopted that just as easily ... will anyone that is religious listen to that kind of logic ... Nah. What happens if you try? They short circuit and quote something from their holy testament. Let’s assume, for argument, that Christians are right ... then why are there so many different churches with different allegiances that are all Christian?? Why can't people just accept that whatever faith that another person has is just as relevant as yours. You are part of that religion for yourself ... not to convince everyone in the World that you are right. You are only right because that is what you were taught was right ... that don't mean that it is right.
As a child, how many things did you hear from friends or family that you would repeat to all your friends? If they argued, what would you say ... ?? "my XXXXXX told me so" ... therefor it must be right. We are told things every day by the media that we hold as god holy truth ... until the story is corrected. How many different interpretations of various Bibles have there been ... they are always interpreted based on the times that we live in. Do any of us know what is really the truth?
Going a bit off-topic though, but back in the religion. I know a lot of religious people that have tried to convince me to join their church ... friends, relatives, and just simple aquaintances. They all talk about how strong their faith is and how you will be a better person for it. Well, 90% of them are full of BS. Why? because they don't follow half of what they are preaching. Most religions hold it very dear that you should not have sex before marriage. In fact, it is probably the strongest and most straightforward of all the beliefs. No hidden message ... no way to spin it. But, how many people actually abide by it.
I recently had a "conversation" with someone who was trying to convince everyone how strong their religious beliefs are, when I know for a fact that sex before marriage is not something that they abide by. They overindulge in alcohol. The list is actually quite large. So, how do they have the right to even speak to someone about their beliefs and how insulted they are by people who are not religious. Ahhh, but God is all forgiving, so it is ok. Ummm, wait? If God will forgive their (constant) sinning, how can they not forgive (and accept) those who do not follow the same path. Oh, but this is religion ... what a tangled web. I wouldn't want to tie myself to a faith just because of the internal conflict I would have about the sinning I would be doing every day. Do us a favor? Either be "religious" or not. Don't straddle the fence for your own selfish needs.

Came across your message & understand your point. But as a follower of Christ, I can tell you that you are making some incorrect assumptions about God, primarily the assumption that He only forgives Christians. The bible doesn't say that. If you read the teachings of Jesus, he talks about the Kingdom of God bieng universal and forgiveness is freely offered to everyone. It is only those who rely on their own-self sufficiency and reject the forgiveness freely offered that run into trouble. 'Church people' are really screwed up when they believe that they can somehow earn God's favor and be somehow 'better' than everyone else. But that doesn't change the fact that God loves every Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Atheist, etc. on Earth. He created every one of them to be a part of His perfect story which is all about love. Love only exists in an environment where there is freedom to choose. The sad part is that some people choose to reject the love and grace of God, believing that they are self-sufficient without Him.
you are right, and I appologize. I did not mean to say that God does not forgive. I meant it to be directed at the followers who do not accept others, even though God does. I have no problems with any religion itself ... it's the "followers" that are my greatest concern.
